Well, smashing Sunday arrived, and it started with handing out lifesaving pieces of material (in the form of mosquito nets) to the various families in Kotusilo, the village we visited on day two. To say that the villagers are grateful would be an understatement, in handing out the nets, students are ultimately handing out lifelines, a phenomenal opportunity!
This afternoon students went to Nena鈥檚 to complete a batik activity. It is a true privilege to be welcomed into her home and they were as accommodating as ever for our students!
Karaoke didn鈥檛 happen last night, but rumour has it that there is a live band this evening! 馃

Day 5: A Super Saturday!
This morning all of us went to Omega school. This is a wonderful school, and our students had a fabulous time singing, dancing and completing arts and crafts with the children. The students of this school were so receptive to ours that we were delayed getting back to the hotel for lunch because no one wanted leave!
We are hoping that this is a school that Earls will be able to maintain a link with long term; they are on a new venture to purchase land to build a bigger school as their student population grown sooooo much in the last four years!
After lunch we returned to St Peter鈥檚 to complete our third session decorating the classrooms. We have a final session on Monday to complete the rooms, I feel that there may be steam coming off of our paintbrushes!!
The students are chilling in the pool as I write this, having had a quick stop at the supermarket on the way back to the hotel.
Tonight, there is karaoke鈥tand by Gambia, Mrs Sevier might find a microphone in her hand after dinner!!! 馃ぃ

Well, what can I say, other than it鈥檚 been another busy, awesome and rather epic day!! This morning, half went to Spring of Life school and half went to the special school. Amazing experiences have been had by all again, it鈥檚 lovely to see the students responding so positively to all the opportunities they are being provided with!
Following lunch, we ventured back to St Peter鈥檚 to decorate the classrooms鈥 have to say, I鈥檝e never seen whitewashed walls in a Gambian classroom as white as I have today, highly impressive! There was also lots of pictures drawn today ready to be decorated tomorrow.
After a quick splash in the pool late this afternoon, students then got ready for the 100m walk down the beach to a restaurant where we enjoyed a fantastic meal and live entertainment.
Looking forward to what day 5, 6 and 7 are yet to bring!

Well, what an exceptionally busy day! 18 students managed to get up early enough to make it to the beach to watch the sunrise, however, the sun had other ideas! Whilst it has been glorious, unfortunately the mist was too dense to get it rising! Mrs Narrowmore did manage a quick pic about half hour later!
We divided into two groups this morning. Mrs Sevier had 13 students who went to Wisdom nursery school and did an array of activities with the children. The other 19 students, accompanied by Mr Cajigal and Mrs Narrowmore went to visit Gambia鈥檚 one and only special school.
After a quick lunch stop at the hotel, we went out to St Peter鈥檚 nursery school to whitewash the classroom walls in preparation of the educational artwork that we will paint on them in the coming days.
Having worked so hard, we stopped at the ice cream parlour on the way back to the hotel.
Finally, I鈥檓 typing this whilst supervising the students in the pool! If you ever want to see a holiday pool area clear of guests, just put 32 very happy students in the pool at the end of a long day! 馃ぃ
This evening we understand that there will be some entertainment in the form of a reggae band which the students are very excited about!
Mrs Sevier writes…
The group split this morning, with half going to St. Peter’s school and half to Omega School. Activities with the nursery children included colouring, paper plate sticking, spiral hangers, a little bit of face painting and lots of singing.
This afternoon we went to visit the village at the side of the rubbish dump. Students were able have a go at pulling the water from the well, playing with children, helping the women with their clothes washing jobs and cooking rice! Kotusilo and more importantly where it is situated has certainly made the students think twice about the accommodation they have returned back to, suddenly a splash in our 1 star hotel this afternoon has felt like true luxury!!
Hope you are enjoying the pictures and getting a flavour of what your children are up to, they will obviously have lots of their own to share and talk about with you when they return!

After a looooong day of travelling, we all arrived safely in The Gambia. Students did exceptionally well, considering how sleep deprived we all were by the end of the day! The day finished off with dinner and some fantastic live entertainment, which saw our students moving and grooving to the beats!
On the last day of a very long Autumn term, Mrs Sevier was delighted to make a special delivery to The Mary Stevens Hospice in the form of a large donation for this worthy charity.
Students of The Earls raised well over 拢2000. Donations from Christmas Jumper Day, the collection at The Carol Service and sponsorship for the reindeer run all contributed.
It was fantastic to see students so willing to contribute and give during the festive period.
A huge thank you to all students involved!
This impressive, colourful, musical masterpiece, with its remarkable puppetry was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students and staff alike. We all left the theatre utterly thrilled by this musical theatre experience.听听The students on the trip were a delight and were complimented on their excellent behaviour by members of the public.
A Year 10 students鈥 thoughts on The Lion King trip:
The production started at 7.30pm and ended at 10.00pm at the Birmingham Hippodrome.听听We took the coach to the theatre from school. It was good vibes, everyone was laughing and anticipating the amazing show we were about to watch.
Picture of the character Scar
The lights and costume reflected each character perfectly.听听Scar was portrayed as bone like to represent his bitter and cold attitude. Sharp claws and spikes to show his ruthless acts like Mufasa鈥檚 death.听听Scar鈥檚 movements were quick and sharp to portray his character.
Picture of Simba and Nala
Nala and Simba, their dance moves were quick and fluent to show their love when they are together and when they are apart their movements are slower and softer.
Year 7 students were treated to a special film screening of Frozen after school. We enjoyed hot chocolate with marshmallows and had an amazing singalong to ‘Let it go’!
Merry Christmas everyone.
